Enter the right events and there are sometimes water bottles in the goodie bag at the end. Or, buy all your bike bits from the same LBS, and eventually ask them for some freebie bottles. Lots of them seem to have bottles with their logo on, and give them away free as a bit of advertising. We got 4 free with our 2 new bikes a few weeks ago, for instance, but I've had freebies before from other bike shops (and running shops) in the past.

tbh I would spend the extra couple of quid and get one of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/camelbak-po...m_medium=base&utm_campaign=uk&kpid=5360478654 you can lock them from leaking 100% which is not the case with 99% of others. A superb quality product.

The other thing is to do an Ironman - free bottles left right and centre at the aid stations

Attend a large cycle race and if you get to the right place you'll have them thrown at you - only used once, quick wash, good as new.

I still have about 6 from Ironman 2005
This is true, my son has some souvenir water bottles he's rehomed when he's been spectating at races. TDF coming our way in the summer!

I got a few from a day at the TDF last summer. Find a Sky one, they write the riders initials on them, so you know who used it. Very important that.

How much is the exact cost of handling and selling the product? Not that I would pay that much. Somebody wanted more than minimum wage at one point I would imagine.
The same applies to every single product for sale, anywhere. So the question remains; why are plastic drinks bottles so expensive?

You could always try the nice alloy bottles from the local pound store, [ours sometimes has them at 2 for a pound !]

My ex got a shed-load of Sport Relief 2012 bottles from Sainsbury's for some pitiful amount a while back. Sport Relief is back, so keep your eye out in a few months...

I don't think I've ever paid for one, apart from some CamelBak podium bottles I bought to try them out (not impressed actually).

Latest bottles came from High5 as part of a promotional pack of discounted energy bars.
