Why do motorists put themselves through this?

Southampton is a small city. Relatively flat, relatively temperate. Yet recently in the local paper there have been a raft of complaints about cyclists, about traffic jams, with motorists who give testimony over the "chaos" of recent road works, and parking costs. Reading the articles its clear many of the drivers are only going a couple of miles.

I must have sailed past something like 3 miles of standing traffic today. As did the many motorcyclists I saw.

Last time I was in Southampton by recumbent trike was "impounded" by the Police!!!!

T'was on the Sky Ride and we were at a pinch point and at a standstill so started chatting, she was interested, so left her colleague as a "deposit" and took off for a test ride, came back about about ten minutes later grinning like a Cheshire cat, and told me there was no way I was getting it back!

We used to have a shop across the green from us, about 100 yards away.

Our neighbour used to drive round the green about a 1/4 mile to the shop, pick up paper and milk, then drive a similar distance back

He also use to complain vociferously about car parking at the shop!

:bicycle:Steve, sounds like you have the ideal dream commute! cycling to work and taking a bird bath at the beach would be a holiday for me everyday. I leave my house at 3:30am as I begin my shify at 5am. Winter is'nt bad here as it does'nt really get too cold. Los Angeles dips as low as 33° at worst. I plan to commute year round with this blessed weather
