Why do people ignore double white lines?

Not sure if they were legal but most of those passes were delightful.
Yes they were, compare to some I have had (the Lexus and BMW were bad).
But the passes were only good because I was taking primary, so I suppose if they are going to overtake when they shouldnt, then you cannot blame them for taking extra care.

If you think most of those passes were good, then most of the ones I get on normal roads are the same. Its just the odd few that are either close or dangerous. Most are excellent.

I saw one pass by a BMW in that montage that looked badly iffy to me. There was oncoming traffic and he/she still went for it.

Most of the others were inoccuous in my view. There is a case to be made for letting the minor irritations wash over you.

I fear we may be back at the stage of advising a young helmetcammer not to engage verbally with motorists over what are petty and (in the main) harmless offences.

Matthew, I seriously wonder whether it can impede or threaten you if a motorist crosses double white lines and passes you at a safe distance on that bridge.

You seem to be shouting "Twenty!" at some of them. This is not a matter for you. I'd advise you to look after your own speed and let others look after theirs. The tooting of your Air-Whizz-Blare-Out Horn thingy seems slightly OTT as well.

Enjoy the ride. Rhyl is not full of Motorpsycho Nightmares and serial killers. Your footage seems to prove it.

Have I at any point said that they put me in danger? No.

Most of the passes were safe and didnt impede me in any way. This thread isnt on the safety of the passes, but the legallity and impatience of some people.

I didnt shout at every driver, I just point at the white lines. If they ignore me, then I am not bothered as they have done the overtake.

To put it into context: All the passes have happened in one year. So on just the odd occassion someone has overtaken me. I have gone over this bridge hundreds of times and only had these few overtakes. And most of them were safe, but illegal.

However, even though I take primary for the DWL part as I know I can keep close to 20mph, people still feel the need to overtake when there are no oncoming cars, breaking the 20mph speed limit.

Why would you want to block cars from overtaking when it's safe to do so? It's not our job/duty to keep other motorists within the speed limit. I only take primary in situations where it would endanger me by giving drivers the opportunity to overtake. Keeping 'close' to 20 mph will just wind up drivers who wnat to go at exactly the speed limit (or above.)

(OT aside: My late father only ever got stopped by the police once. He crossed a solid white line by about 20m when passing an unmarked police car. He admitted it at once and was let off with a talking-to.)

Presumably if he crossed a solid white line by 20m, his car was in fact in the front room of the house opposite, and he actually got off quite lightly?

Matthew you can take this personal or not your choice, it's about time you grew up & joined the real world. There was nothing wrong with what those drivers did apart from the white van, too close to the corner & the blue BMW 'total moron'. Okay technically illegal but what is your solution that they stay behind you the whole length of the road. I've said it before YOU cause these situation by your antagonistic attitude towards drivers.

Near where I grew up a few years ago there was a collision when one motorist decided to overtake a cyclist on a bridge with double white lines. The result was on one wet day a collision occurred & while at relatively low speed cause one of the cars to crush the cyclist & ped against the bridge wall before demolishing the wall & falling into the river. There were 4 deaths & person 1 seriously injured, 3 of those deaths were caused by drowning. The reason why there was a double white line was't because visibility was impaired but because the conditions on that stretch of road were such that any collision which did take place was far more likely to have serious consequences than normal.

I also know of 2 locations around here were what looks like perfectly safe roads to overtake are actually deceptive & visibility is significantly less than is evident. They have double white lines that people ignore & I've witnessed several near misses at these locations. This location for instance looks for all the world as though you've got good enough visibility, the reality is there's not enough visibility to commit to an overtake on that section of road, even a cyclist who can easily be freewheeling at 25mph going in the same direction as that's taken. Coming up the hill you've only got enough visibility when you're well over the oposite side of the road.

I'd rather they crossed the dwl to overtake me than stayed the right side of it and still overtook. I am all for being given plenty of room.

Life's too short to get cross by everything that isn't perfect.

The 20mph limit doesn't seem too well signed in that footage. That aside the nature of the infringements fall into the same category as driving at 72mph on a motorway. Technically illegal but almost utterly irrelevant in the circumstances (WVM and Beemer dangerous passes in the footage aside)

The footage only shows the overtakes, not the whole road.
