Why do people ignore double white lines?

On my usual route I have to travel along a bridge which has a 20mph limit on it. It also has double white lines for the whole of this speed section. However, even though I take primary for the DWL part as I know I can keep close to 20mph, people still feel the need to overtake when there are no oncoming cars, breaking the 20mph speed limit.

There are of course the odd people who wait behind patiently and are met with a 'thank you' when they eventually pass me.

But why are people in so much of a hurry to pass me when it is illegal to do so? It really frustrates me.

Some drivers just see :bicycle: and think :cursing: and just HAVE to overtake!

For the same reason they ignore "no parking" signs, speed limits in general and do as they damn well please in most situations.
I don't know what the reason is other than "because they can"
Some people are just like that.

There's nothing wrong with overtaking where there are DWLs present...so long as you dont cross the lines.
That's the tricky bit.

Because you're typical driver is an arrisshole in a hurry with little genuine respect or appreciation for the rules and conventions of the road.

Because they know there is next to no chance of them being caught doing it by the police, so in their minds... "Whats the harm"..

Which in turn leads too...

Because you're typical driver is an arrisshole in a hurry with little genuine respect or appreciation for the rules and conventions of the road.

And then people 'forget' said rules and conventions because they never use them.
