It's OK, I'm 18, and hence have a 99% better ability to multi task, proven in titatnium and carbon fibre! Anyway, it's the vodka in my water bottle you should be really concerned about!

Ah, Dan, sorry, I must confess, I am now back from my bike ride. I see you very reasonably jumped to the conclusion that it was an imaginary bike ride, but I can assure you that my sweaty buttocks are in fact real. I was riding, I stopped for a coffee, I returned. Common sense might have indicated the latter once I started posting again, following another absence! ;-)

Many moons ago I had a Citroen Xantia work car and coincidently a few years ago I also had a Mercedes E class with SBC. I am fairly confident the Xantia would have out braked the Mercedes. It may be something to do with the 500KG difference in weight between the cars. Funnily enough all the SBC cars were recalled for work and the system dropped on future models. None of this is particularly relevant, but I thought I would put it out there.

Seems extremely unlikely, I've never had a car capable of stopping so quickly, I've had a number of Porsches, BMW's, in addition to pretty much every rep mobile (when I was in company cars supplied by Entreprise). A recall doesn't mean the system doesn't work, pretty much every VW produced over the last six years is likely to be recalled shortly. How many Toyota's have been recalled? The system was cancelled because people didn't like the lack of feel of a completely electronic system, however there can be little doubt that it was, and I believe remains the most technically advanced system in the world. Personally I still find it the best system I've ever used, hence my initial post!

Sorry guys, I prefer common sense. You'll find stats to 'prove' pretty much anything. Personally I'd prefer to be out on my bike rather than trawling the web. So i am. On my coffee and cake stop now. Yum yum.

How does "common sense" suggest that going faster gives you better fuel economy?
I'm genuinely fascinated as to your thought processes on this.

1. It didn't work as well. It wasn't SBC, it didn't have ESP, I can't really be arsed to go into all the detail, I bored of this thread, as I put, better of out on the bike, do some people really prefer to troll, or argue over nothing, than to get out on their bike in this weather?

My Brompton is in the boot of my car at this very moment, and when i finish work today, I'm off up to the Lake District. Good enough? ^_^

although I confess i am primarily walking and the Brompton is primarily for pub duty of an evening...

This is depressingly reminiscent of the debates about introducing disk brakes to the pro peloton. Surely, once your brakes are powerful enough to lock the wheels, the braking distance is limited by the coefficient of friction of the tyre to the road, and the method used to lock the wheel is irrelevant?
