Why do some people insist on shouting out to the world that they have higher moral standards than th

A post directed at myself in an earlier thread stimulated some thought in this hollow head of mine.

Sometimes, people seem to take the chance at any opportunity to jump on people, ridiculing them on their actions even though they may not know the full story....In a forum environment this seems to happen more often, as full stories aren't often written out, as it can be time consuming.

People will happily class the actions of others as disgusting or vile without attaining the full facts. So are these people genuinely nice people, who are just a little niave and do not think to enquire further before casting their judgement, or are these kind of comments made to bolster the image of being a nice, caring person to the onlooking public by proving they hold the moral highground over others? By labelling somebody as an evil torturous mong, does the evil mong move down in society, whilst the person labelling the evil mong as an evil mong moves up in the consideration of society due to the fact they brought alertness to the public of this villain?

Does this make sense? just interested from a psychology point of view.

I presume you refer to Goldfishgate?

I like to think 99.9% of the people on here are the first description.... They just semi read things and get the wrong end of the stick.

The problem with forums (and texting, emails, messenger etc) is that as there is no tone and posters tend to presume a lot will be understood much gets misunderstood and offence is taken.

Although there is of course the minority on here that love an excuse to climb high up on their ponies and look down on all the scum that litter the cyclechat streets. more than likely, they are just obese agoraphobes and live miserable lives, their only enjoyment is to correct spelling mistakes and berate people.

For the same reason that some people demonstrate their stupidity over and over again, and still object when people comment upon it.

Like Wigsie - 99.9% fine folk......but sometimes mis-read stuff (like e-mails), or may like to provoke the opposite opinion.... fine..... that's debate, or have had a few pop's ;)

The troll spotters are 100% spot on here though.........

It's a forum...in one ear out the other... other than in know how.....etc..

I am a psychologist in training (at University as we speak!).

You will be using a few of those brackets over the next three years, so remember: no need to punctuate outside of the bracket if it is a complete sentence inside the bracket. ;) Sorry - but I would want to know!

I think the main issue with the thread you refer to was you asked "What other problems can people see?" then when someone replied "Them not wanting it" your reply was "That is tough luck"...kind of sets up the course of the thread thereafter...

Of your own making IMO. Yours, with a whole year worth of Psychology 101 under my belt 25 years ago ;)
