You get to poodle when you like, and still rack up your mileage, but also get to really go for it and see how you did compared to a massive amount if people that have wide ranging abilities. Being a newbie this year, it's a real motivation to compare segments for all of my rides. Can see at a glance how well I have come on.
Being 100th out of 1000 people won't cut it for some, whilst others see it as being in the top ten percent.
