How come none of the big manufacturers make their coloured tyres in 25c? Lots of colour choices available in 23c but only black in the larger 25c - anyone know why?

I've got some Vittoria Zaffiro's on my bike in 25mm width. I've been giving them a workout or two, and their grip is good, inspiring confidence coming off the Malvern Hills at 75kph. Mine are a not very adventurous black colour, but Chain Reaction are showing a range of colours available, except yellow, currently out of stock.

But all those colours are in 23 mm width, which was the question.

It's because in the period where tyre marketing went into overdrive, the received wisdom was that 23 mm was the optimum width. As a result they coloured up the 23s so that different colour tyres could be used to really set off the graphics of their wheels. And this would aid marketing bollox.

They can't just stop doing it because they'd lose money.

In time, if the current philosophy on 25 mm persists, you'll see the same multitude (it is actually quite limited) of colours on 25 mm tyres. They just haven't reached the point yet where they're the race norm.

Once that happens, 15.8% of this forum's members will start extolling the virtues of them.

Because coloured tyres are shite - and making them in bigger sizes just makes them even more shite. So 25c (or above) coloured tyres would just be too much shite for most people.
 yep, every time I see some London twonk on coloured tyres I always feel like pulling alongside and in a hushed faux friendly tone (akin to the genuine friendly tone you would use to tell someone their flies were undone) whispering that that their particular colour is so last year.

This annoys me. Not that I especially want coloured tyres (except maybe if I could get some yellow ones for the yellow bike), but it seems like on the one hand everyone is running around saying "25 is the new 23" and on the other hand all the bargains and special offers for tyres are still in 23mm width.
