Why no pockets in padded shorts?

I have a funny little inner pocket in my padded shorts. Just big enough for a few coins, but I have never used it cos its tricky to get too and it feels a bit odd. Probably going to cut the pocket thing off, its just like a pouch thing and only sewn along the top edge.

Couldn't they have a back pocket? like runners bottoms do.
You've confirmed why I'm useless at running. I don't have a pocket on my bottom. So am clearly not disposed to running.;)

I can see the obvious (aero dynamics) etc. but surely the benefits of a pockets would outweigh any negatives....just for a handkerchief?
That's my moan for today done.....but every time I don my shorts it crosses my mind!

Excellent point!

I shoved my mitt gloves up my ass the other night after taking them off mid ride, as in the absence of a pocket, where else could they go?!

In the same place as you keep your spare innertube? Saddlebag or similar must surely be prefrable to stuffing mutts up your a*se!

I was travelling light, lol. My little packs were brimming with stuff already. To be fair I didn't physically rectumize the gloves, just stuffed them down the back of my shorts for extra padding!

I have a couple of pairs of Santini bib shorts that have a pocket in the small of the back
If it's in the position that my bib shorts have a pocket in, then it wouldn't be easy to get to something in it whilst riding.

I believe those pockets are used for race radios.
