Why riding in cold weather feels harder.

I've done some cycling in Johannesburg, which is at 5500 ft and the air is noticeably thinner; you breathe harder and you seem to gather speed faster.

No. It actually gets quite warm during the summer, or so I keep reminding myself.

That is not much colder than some parts of the UK (those that have had significant snow) will be over the next few days.

I genuinely thought I was just making it up each January to cover over the fact that I'd completely overdone the "spirit of the season" and been too damned lazy during Christmas and New Year and it took me a couple of months to get back up to speed.
