Wifi Problem

I have recently got an HTC Desire Z and am loving it,but have a slight problem which is driving me maaaad...

When Im at home it connects straight to the wifi and will go on the internet without any problem at all.
When im in work it connects straight to the wifi but when I try to get on the net It totally refuses to and says something about being unable to connect, whereas I can have my old phone,SE W995,in my other hand and it will get on the net via wifi straight away.

Now I would have thought that if there was a problem with the network or wifi in work then my W995 would not connect either, and likewise if there was a problem in the settings on my Desire then it would not connect faultlessly at home.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I can try, or is it all just a fiendish plan to stop me skiving on here when im in work

My home wifi is secure, and works is open, but I cant see what difference that would make as in both places it is connected and has a full signal.

So youve done all the turn off turn on take battery out stuff.. Have you ever connected to an open network? if not Could it be a supplier contract setting hidden in another menu

I have gone into all the settings and everything appears to be as it should be. Think ill have to ring 02 and see if they have any suggestions.

Try this from a "home" screen.

Hit the menu key, then "Settings" > "Wireless & Networks" > "Wi-Fi Settings" Does the work network appear on the list and does it say "Connected"? If so, then tap it and check the signal strength is good and if all seems ok, then "forget" that network and connect again.

Yep Hunny, have done all that too...am well and truly stumped with this

The only difference in spec between the two phones is that the HTC Z can handle 802.1n standard. There may be an n network at work which the Z is picking up and attempting to connect to. Have you still got the old phone ? Can you check the SSID (network name) is the same on both phone. There's a little android app I use - wifi analyser which is quite good at showing what channel and what networks are available and what their relative strengths are.

Have you tried restarting the router at work then try setting up the connection on your phone again.

I do occasionally have difficulty getting my Desire to connect to the net when and only when, there is a pseudo-open network available for it to use, such as any that need you to register and\or pay, such as in work's foyer, in the hotels, pubs or trains etc. Turn off wifi completely and your phone will be forced to use the 3g or whatever connection instead. All should work fine.

I have found that adding the 'power control' widget to my home screen allows me to turn on and off gps, wifi, bluetooth at a whim, making this process a whole lot easier.

Of course, once I have time I 'forget' the network that I know to be causing it, but this may take some time (+1 for network analyser)

I will try the app, but when it wont connect in the open wifi at work if I disable it it still wont connect. Its got a real good "anti-skive" mode. Shame I lose so much of my life in work with a gang of angry birds.......................

I have just upgraded my Wildfire to 2.2 and can now move my apps to the SD card, and now that Angry Birds is working my work productivity could take a hit
