Wifi problems?

Channel 8 seems empty for me. Downloaded a wifi scanner majority around me on channel 1 6 10,11
seems fine now the 5GHz is just to unstable for devices in my house although there are no channels being used by anyone nearby

I just tried sorting out a friend's wifi this morning. She seems to have a similar problem to the one I had, which is interference from a powerful signal from her neighbour's wifi on channel 11. Channels 1 and 6 were also in use by more distant neighbours but the levels were lower. I tried changing her router's channel but the new channel wouldn't 'stick'. I think I was doing all the right things. I'll try again later ...

My system is still working nicely after the wifi channel change. It is such a relief having a reliable and quick connection again! I am checking the state of local wifi usage at least once a day now and will swap channels again if it becomes necessary.

Can anyone actually use channels 12 or 13, most of my devices cannot connect on these channels and lose connection.

At one point some chip sets didn't support above 11, US made ones I think but that was a fair time ago.
Recently had issues with wireless connections as slow as 1mb. Changed the channel to 13 and had the same then it cleared up as if by magic. Can only assume a neighbour was bittorrenting over night or one of the house renters was trying to grab free broadband from any device in the area)

As part of my ongoing investigation, I wandered round the house using the wifi monitor. My signal on channel 13 was consistently stronger than nearby signals. It was still very usable at the opposite end of the house to the router (far side of second floor attic bedroom). Interestingly, all but my signal and those from the two neighbours were zapped when I switched my microwave oven on!

I used this same app some time ago. Wasn't having issues, but once I looked, I found most neighbours on 1 or 11, so moved to 9 which was the clearest.

Had a play with this today and found we're on channel 11 along with loads of others, will be sorting a change tomorrow when I get a chance.
