Agreed, but watching lots of grown men pootling along riding bikes for three hours isn't exactly exciting is it?

Neither is watching grown men driving the same cars round and round and round and round a track for over an hour...

I can't spend hours in the garage rescuing rusty bikes golf clubs dredged out of the river or spend hours calculating the correct chainring/sprocket size for a Sturmey hub 5 Iron so I'll stick to cycling. More fun.:bicycle:

There's been loads of British winners of the Open (most of them Scottish), not sure that one more is going to kick-start interest in the game.

Golf is one of those games that I enjoy playing (badly) but find utterly tedious to watch on TV, although I do love Peter Alliss' commentary. It's alright to watch live too.

McIlroy won a million the other day. Top golfers earn about 10 million a year, even those down the list earn a reasonable living with a few sticks. I discovered I can hurl the stick further than I can hit the ball.

McIlroy will get over £10m a year just for swinging Nike sticks and wearing their clothes...!

Every sport is boring if it doesn't appeal to you and exciting if it does. I can never understand why people knock a sport just because they don't like it, I can't stand cricket or rugby but I appreciate the skill and dedication of those who reach the top level and I would never knock anyone for being interested in them. Even without a subscription package there are about thirty TV channels so no one is forced to watch what they don't want to watch.

It shows why the licence fee is well worth the money. Uninterrupted coverage from start to finish without an ad break every five minutes, top class commentary and analysis and no stupid rap music or whatever accompanying the replays. You may not like golf but it is a very tough competitive sport.

I think I'd have to part with you on that bit. I dislike, Aliss is it? Someone with a bit of zipp about them would be far better and more insightful about the golfers rather than just the course.

I don't like cricket or rugby either, but they do both involve significant physical exertion, speed, and/or endurance, and you'd be on shaky ground trying to claim either were not really sport. Golf? It has little more claim to the title than open air darts
