Bought a dawes 101 discovery hybrid two years ago as i was doing a fifty mile charity ride and thought that as i might also be doing some light offroading this would be the bike for me.

Since then i have carried on my biking on a regular basis mostly for leisure and fitness.

As i now ride 100% on tarmac i am thinking of getting a road bike but the budget is limited(£300).

For that price you could get the carrara or the b'twin triban 3 new or take a chance of secondhand on ebay.

My question is would i be better on these bikes in the way of pace and going longer distances than the discovery?:bicycle:

Regarding pace, a road bike may bring up your average speed (hopefully lighter with a more aerodynamic positioning, the later is particularly useful when cycling into headwinds). Comfort should not be compromised providing you get the correct size, and then make minor tweaks to perfect the set-up. This should, when combined with a higher average speed, allow you to go further > get fitter > go further still.
