Don`t forget that you do not have to eat in cafes and restaurants all the time.
The French supermarkets are great. They even have Aldis all over the place. All our are lunches are bits brought from supermarkets and eaten in fields, war cemeteries, etc. It is a big part of our holiday.
Carrafours do the most wonderful take away meals that they cook in big vats in the deli section. They are big, delicious and very cheap. You can make eating good food very cheap abroad.
As well as Warmshowers there is also Couchsurfers. There is also Airbnb, hostelworld and F1 hotels for cheap accomodation.
