Due to ride home from work at 11pm, hope it would calmed down a bit. The A12 was tough this morning

a slog in but what a ride home

I was trying to keep up with someone in Shaftesbury CC kit 27/28mph on the flat, 28mph up the Bow flyover (that was hard work) and i think a new personal best of 37mph on the way down, I just kept up with him with the help of some red lights (for him)

at one point the wind alone was moving me along as I nearly slowed to a stop

cracking stuff, it was almost worth the ride in

Well I take that back, I actually did notice a bit of wind tonight. Quite impressed by how little the bent is affected by the tailbox and carbon disc rear wheel in strong side gusts.

I have a N/S rural commute so I had to deal with a nasty crosswind which at times threatened to blow me over. Had to be careful to avoid the odd broken branch hanging over the road. Worst thing about it is the leaves get blown off the trees then combine with the rain to make rather a nasty looking surface to cycle on.

soooooo windy on my commute intoday, had to wear my jacket the whole way, which i don't like. nearly got blown into traffic on vauxhall bridge as well.

Gaz, I probably see you each morning..I often dread the start of vauxhall bridge ...going from the south, there is a huge selection of lanes to cross with a small incline but nearly always a massive gust of wind that catches me out most mornings.

Oh cool! Vauxhall Bridge road is on my commute also. It can be rather gusty there, usually from the west.

Do you guys use the southbound cycle lane? I tend to scorn it now, and take the middle of the left hand lane. A few car drivers don't like that much, but that lane is just too narrow IMO. I've had several p£$%t&£s there, and too many close brushes by large vehicles such as coachs.

p.s. there was a horrible crash on the junction with VB Road and Millbank. Scooter down, road closed off, and police taking pictures. Made me feel quite sick.

Managed to miss that this AM, was on the bridge at around 8.30...not sure when this happened.

In respionce to the south cycle lane thing...I'm not sure, i ride off the road on the south bound approach (to the railway bridge) and take the cyclelane under the "arches cycle park" that brings me out on the south side of the river bridge and then have to wait in the bus lane untill I can get across the double lights thingy and cross into the left cycle lane...all a bit of a faff really and eventually cross the river bridge...and face that GUST!

crikey, your commute must be even longer than mine, where do you end up.

this conversation is probably gonna have to end up on the PM or else eveyone else will be bored silly

The accident was last night going home, about 20:40ish.

Really? That's a lot of faff using those cycle lanes!!! I almost always take the gyratory nowadays, like a car. I did mean the cycle lane going southbound over the bridge though.

My commute is Biggin Hill-West End, so about 43 miles round trip. I can do a mile or so less if I feel like doing Anerley Hill instead.

38-40 for me depending on whether I avoid the earls court gauntlet. I end up in Shephards Bush area starting in Chislehurst.

By Anerley I assume you mean the dreaded Crystal palace!!? I would'nt try that on my bike let alone lying down on that mobile hammock of yours!!

you are clearly a more experience/fitter commuter to me...respect

Crystal Palce....shiver
