Winter bike (it's coming ya know!)

I know its all (mostly) sunny smiles and miles at the moment but I am thinking ahead and on the lookout for a winter bike.
I have my Defy 1 for dry days and currently use a 2010 hybrid Ridgeback Flight 01 in winter with guards etc.
I plan to sell the Ridgeback and the never used for 3 years old Boardman Sport mountain bike to go towards my birthday/xmas present giving me probably at least £800.
With that starting figure in mind I spotted the PlanetX London Road which looks a good bike with a few variants.
I like the disc brakes and it claims to be sub 10Kg.

Has anyone got one or can suggest something along the same lines with a decent groupset ?
I don't want to go lower than 105/Rival groupset.

Whereabouts in East Yorks are you & do you really need gears on a winter hack? I'm in the process of building a retro steel single speed, not as cheap as I'd hoped but hopefully no expensive repairs with winter running. Even with mudguards the drivetrain takes a hammering in winter

Brid area - most rides round here involve hills.
We went south at the weekend down to,Beverley, Hornsea, Driffield and managed 92 miles without touching a hill till getting near home !

And tiagra/sora/claris isn't good enough how? TBH get some guards on the defy and save your pennies.

Personally I'd rebuild/uprate the Flight, a total strip and a good clean 'n' polish then replace anything that's getting a bit worn but with better kit (Deore/ XT)

my winter bike will be a good old steelie with a nice set of guards , current favourite for the role is a nice 70's R.E.W Reynolds that is coming together very slowly but hey no rush its still summer

As mentioned in the OP it's my xmas/birthday present and as there is nothing else I want plus it's my only hobby that's what I chose to spend the money on.
I prefer drop bars to flat bars so both older bikes are out. I still want a second bike for backup and/or winter use so that's why I am replacing the two bikes I never use for something I will enjoy using.

Thanks Vickster - All look really good solid bikes too. Food for thought I think and I would have to weigh them up against the px london with BB7 discs.
