Troops, reaching out to the CCnet here.

about 2 years ago I broke a metacarpal in my left hand. It has healed but it's definitely one of those breaks when you can tell it's cold outside as you feel it in your bones (metacarpal) quite literally. I had a pair of Aldi winter gloves which are great for keeping the hands warm (but not waterproof) for the cost of a fiver, alas after moving house naturally I can only find one glove and a suspiciously sheepish looking German Shepherd... The past few weeks on my commute I've taken to wearing my running gloves but they are no wear near warm enough to keep the hands warm which leads to a stiff hand after my commutes, yesterday even the shower wouldn't warm the hand up and it took holding a cup of coffee for 5 minutes to help soothe it.

I'm looking to invest in a really good (but cheap!) pair of waterproof and warm winter cycling gloves if you can throw suggestions towards me. Living in Scotland I could probably use these in the summer as the rain just gets "warmer". I don't want to end up with hand problems when I get older...er.

Any suggestions or reviews are appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Other threads, try the search function :okay:

A good time to be looking as you may find some on sale as we come into spring

Some people swear by those hand warmer things in their gloves too

PlanetX are always worth a look.

I've got a pair of these which I use during extreme cold/wet/snow although I find them too warm if the temperature is above +5c.

And these could be good for when it's cold but dry, although I've not tried them personally.

I bought some Specialised waterproof gloves a few years ago. They are fully waterproof, still, and warm as toast.

I like Endura And Specialized gloves (without gel pads that are always in the wrong place and hurt after many hours).

Get whatever gloves you finally go with BUT then also buy some Rab merino liners (£18 on eBay) to go underneath for the mornings and night rides. They are very thin. During the day they dry out and add that ‘aaahhh’ comfort dimension when you put them back on later. Best thing I have ever done wearing liners. I have some cheap (£1.50) fleece ones from Decathlon which do the same thing but don’t breath as well.

PX are selling the Carnac versions a little bit cheaper in their flash sale at the moment.

I've got the PX version and they're the only gloves I've got that keep my hands warm below 5°C.

Whatever you get make sure there's a bit of space inside. Anything tight will conduct heat away from the hands.

Fleece gloves made of a wind stopper material and not too tight on the hand work well in winter. Alternatively you could try primaloft insulated gloves. Mitts are warm for weight if your controls are such that you can operate with mitts. Another alternative is to get some silk liner gloves to wear under your running gloves.

There might be some good deals on skiing gloves now the season is about over (or never really started). Warm and waterproof - just make sure they are flexible enough for cycling.

After buying gloves from Altura and Sealskins without finding anything that did the job, I've got some of these from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/JONI-FUN-Waterproof-Cycling-Windproof/dp/B078711LCR

What appear to be the same gloves are available from multiple sellers, so I just see who is doing them cheapest on Prime.

They're a good fit, keep my hands warm on all but the very coldest of days, without making them sweat.

Otherwise, good value for money can be had at Decathlon. These might fit the bill:

Glove liners could be a good idea as well.
Decathlon's basic ski mittens are my weapon of choice this winter. Great as long as you've not got fiddly controls on the bike. If you don't mind looking a plum, they're now reduced to £4 a pair: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/ski-p-mi-100-ad-plum-id_8494560.html
