..I love winter! and actually I don't mind neither cycling nor running in bad weather. But I dread swimming when the weather is cold, even when I'm going to indoor swimming pool! I completely lose my mojo.. :tired: I also dread all the cleaning my bike requires when the weather is bad.. :rain:

I like winter riding when it looks like this:

Please excuse the BSO - that was my old knockabout bike. It was adequate.

Adapt your technique, approach, equipment and perhaps even your machine and there's no reason why you should face-plant. Winter is just another inagibary reason for non cyclists, WWWs and weaklings not to ride.

Come on guys, play nice

There are a lot of extra hazards to be aware of in Winter - Snow, ice, shorter days, poorer visibility, low temperatures, wetter conditions etc etc.

Non of them are insurmountable but as with facing anything new for the first time it takes practice and time to build up your confidence. It's not for everyone, just like riding at night isn't for everyone.

But on the plus side I love a ride out on a bright frosty day with some nice scenery and the quieter roads you seem to get

But as Drago says - adapt your kit and your machine to the conditions otherwise your first ride will put you off for good!
