I went out wearing my new (supposedly thermal) wind proof tights yesterday, but my derrière got rather cold. I can't find any long under shorts online. What do you do to keep warm in winter. It is always windy in the Fens. I wear under shorts underneath my short shorts, but what is best now it's cold. PS I'm a lady (or so some kind folk assure me).

Simple, if it is too cold, I don't cycle so no need for me to wear extra layers to protect my bits.

What about something like this:

In all seriousness though, what make are your current ones? It could simply be a case of the quality being poor, I've personally found the DHB thermal/windproof stuff to be very good.

Before this turns totally pornographic let me say that if you have good quality padded shorts you can wear non padded tights over he top giving your behind an extra layer. Planet X do some cheap and cheerful pad less tights with the seams inside that leave track marks on you legs but you get what you pay for. Otherwise I suggest a warm under layer top that is long enough to cover your rear end.

As sensibly said above @RedFeend
Padded shorts under leggings is what I wear if the ride requires padding.
Guess you can buy very warm proper cycling tights if your distances warrant the expense.

I just wear a pair of M&S tights under my trousers/leggings and I've been fine so far. I wear socks on top when it's particularly cold, or if I've not got boots on.

I like those. Are they yours? As you say 'seriously' nearly all my stuff is Altura which is medium price. Would love everything Assos but no can afford.

A pair of Ron Hill Tracksters or similar over the tights would do the trick. For the frost this morning I had cycling shorts, then DHB padless tights and 3/4 baggies on top. Lower temps mean more layers, particularly round the nether regions.
