…once i'd realised after about 65 miles that i had a broken spoke. i could have saved myself the agony of riding the remaining 8 with a back wheel that was so deflected onto the brakes that it would not turn at all when wheeled!

knees hurt like buggery…:B)

You could have loosened the brake cable.....

that's the point. i could have opened the caliper or, as you say, loosened the cable (or used a spoke key to try and fix it). however, as it was not making a noise, i assumed my lack of progress was due to lack of fitness following a layoff.

Good effort after your lay off though Alecs. Shoulder ok?

cheers longers. i've been out several times on the saturday run since returning, but as i wanted to get some miles in for a 100 miles and back event in may, i wanted to get some miles in on the gentlemen's wednesday club ride, which is longer but slower.

I find Pexhill a pain without a bust bike, so good on ya.

I used to have a mini pump tied to my seat post tube with a velcro strap and a cable tie as I had lost the holder for it.

One day I had in incredibly hard ride into work, exhausted, sweating and aching legs. I gave the back wheel a spin which didn't freewheel at all, spent about 10 mins trying to work out what was wrong, until I realised my pump had slipped around and was wedged against the back tyre

Not as bad as 65 miles though
