Had a great day cycling yesterday, the day was slightly marred by one incident at the end though.

I got off the train at Liverpool st and started cycling South towards Crystal Palace, I was soon in a group of about 12 cyclists heading over London bridge, only one womanin the group at the time, she was either in a great hurry or she just wanted to be in front, I had almost done 50 miles by then so was getting a little tired, I was'nt in the mood for racing so just let everyone go in front.
I was quite surprised therefore when I caught the woman on the bike up again it must have just been the way the lights changed. So I duely just fell in behind her and a few others, the traffic became quite chaotic and the group of cyclists I was in started weaving in and out and this is when I cut the afore mentioned woman up by coming from between two cars and in to her path I just saw her in the corner of my eye and ordinarily would have apologised, however she shouted at me "well f*****g look then"! I said to her I did'nt expect to be sworn at!
I then said well I expect abuse from car drivers but not other cyclists!
She then shouted "what, am I not fast enough for you on my heavy mountain bike"
Know I could take that either way, either she is trying to point out that she was the fastest biker in the group ! Or she thinks I am annoyed with her because I am a male chauvinist pig and she was the fastest rider in the group!
She then came up on the inside of me and was saying something like, your annoyed cos I am faster than you! I had to signal to go left up the cycle path forcing her to drop back! she then said I did that on purpose as well!!
I can't win, and quite frankly I hope I never see that one again:wacko:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you were the straw that broke the camels back. We've all got stories of cyclists getting in our way and slowing our progress. Some of us react better than others to it. Some of us react better on some occasions than others.

I like the story of the Clapham cyclist who swore and then slowed to apologise. Shame cycling puts him in such a bad mood. I suspect it's just the adrenalin rush of trying to go as fast as you can. And finding that you have to share the road with other road users who may be in your way - not because they are trying to get in your way, just because they are trying to go about their own business. Not that dissimilar to many motorists really.

I've only ever been sworn at once by a cyclist. I was stopped at reds going north past Clapham Common. Bloke cycled past shouting "Effing get out the way."

"Don't swear" I shouted as he shot off (Didn't feel right swearing back at another cyclist). Of course I soon caught up with him.

"What was all that about?" I asked.

In fairness he was very apologetic, and I think he slowed on purpose to allow me to catch up, so he could say sorry.

"I'm always in a bad mood when I cycle," was his excuse.
So an RLJer shouts at you for obeying the law?? Priceless. What a muppet.

dam this forum, sometimes you post reply and it looses the message. anyway will try again....

Grrrrrr, what gets me and a lot of other cyclists is when you pull up to the red light on your fast bike and clunky clanky mtb's come around you and pull infront. What is all that about?! sometimes a whole herd of them (is that the correct term?) Its god dam annoying becuase they dont have the speed to get away from the lights so you end up get snarled up in their traffic, it can be hard to overtake too as cars are now bearing down on you from behind. Its like a morris minor pulling infront of a ferrari. I know its comical to watch their little legs peddeling at a million times a second as they try to get away from you, but its frigging annoying to the max. Sometimes I've made a point when they do it, to leap frog them when lights are still red. infuriating. STOP IT! (rant kinda over)

Coming back from my LBS the other day, had just started and was getting back to a reasonable gear, they'd left it in the 31inch. Guy on a mtb whizzes past pedalling like mad. I start pedalling and soon come up behind him, I had about a mile to go, was into headwind, so I sat there. He kept looking back, I think the fact I was able to frewheel at times was getting to him. When it came to my right turn, I cruised up next to him and thanked him for the tow along. He took it well, had a laugh and said it was my turn to tow him. I said too late I'm home now, but thanks again and off.
