Aft, its only the Orkneys, this is the home of the world's shortest Commercial Flight after all - Pappa Westray to Westray, and, I have done it, all 2 minutes of it!! (it is part of an inter island flight from Kirkwall on a Britten Norman Islander <a tiny plane that is like someone's battered old Volvo Estate, but only with wings>).

This is just an example of the sort of practicality people in the islands still have which, unfortunately has been lost everywhere else.

Post 5003. E5003 is one of my favourite numbers (don't ask).

Years ago I used to work with the Royal Navy Squadrons.

One Cab was flying over a remote area and spotted a young lady without clothes and flew in to check what was going... only to find a Pron movie being filmed and three very professional camera setups now filmingthe CAb as it flew closer to investigate.

They of course had to justify the "investigation" and explain why the Royal Navy was presumably now appearing in the film!

I've done it too. We had a tailwind, so it only took 90 seconds... Anxious not to be late for 'check in', having walked the circumference of Papay, I arrived at the airfield before the firecrew, ground crew and check in staff. He turned up 15 minutes later in a Landrover that doubled as fire tender.

I'm not remotely concerned about those guys stopping off to pick up their dinner. I'm sure the investigating top brass will have pulled strings and done similar at one time or another.

Alot of fuss about nothing.
How often do you see a police car or fire engine parked up outside a chippy?

The butchers training exersize defense reminded me of when my ex husband was a firefighter. They were no longer allowed to rescue cats stuck in trees. But if a distraught owner turned up at the station and asked nicely, they would turn out and log it as a training exersize - if they had nothing more pressing to do.

I've been in the bike shop when the fire engine has arrived outside on the way back from a shout for one of them to buy something, if this hellicopter was passing and the only deviation from its route is to land and take off again I don't see much of an issue

ambulances / police cars etc outside the chippy is because they can't be away from the vehicle but need to eat more than what can be rummaged up back at base.
