Whilst looking up a dialect word (dowly as it happens) I spotted a "Word of the Day". It was this:-

Word of the Day
anthophilous

Definitions for anthophilous
  1. attracted by or living among flowers.
  2. feeding on flowers, as certain insects. Also, anthophagous.

So new game perhaps? Post an unusual word and it's meaning........... Over to you imaginative lot.

And for Accy - there's a poll

I had to look this one up when I saw it recently in a bar:

Oenophile - a connoisseur of wine.

Perhaps not that unusual, but a new one to me.

I always enjoy trying to enrich my vocab, and as a linguist get a lot of satisfaction from comparing various words and their usage. I treated myself to a new thesaurus the other day for that very purpose, but unfortunately it's crap. Or to put it another way, it's crap.
Local one, Pilioch.

Sesquipedalophobia. A word some people are afraid of.
