I would actually like 'ladies' and 'gentlemen' to go out of use completely. They introduce an unnecessary air of gentility (another word which is dying out). What is wrong with the words 'women' and 'men'?

theretofore is a nice wordy word not seen much these days.

Fnaar would be an effective and experienced promoter of 'ladies and gentlemen', but he'd be hard pushed to have a nice bout of 'women and men' I suspect.

You mean you don't want to go back to the days when there were:

Officers and their ladies,
NCO's and their wives, and
Other ranks and their women??

I would do away with 'wives' and 'husbands' too! All would be partners. Everybody who wanted official partnerships would go though civil ceremonies. Marriages could still take place to satisfy religious beliefs, but they would have no legal significance.

Agree about the processes bit. Wouldn't want to do away with my wife though .

Nonsense, I like being able to say my wife of 24 years and the wife likes saying her husband of 24 years.
