Words going out of use

I would actually like 'ladies' and 'gentlemen' to go out of use completely. They introduce an unnecessary air of gentility (another word which is dying out). What is wrong with the words 'women' and 'men'?

Fnaar would be an effective and experienced promoter of 'ladies and gentlemen', but he'd be hard pushed to have a nice bout of 'women and men' I suspect.

I would do away with 'wives' and 'husbands' too! All would be partners. Everybody who wanted official partnerships would go though civil ceremonies. Marriages could still take place to satisfy religious beliefs, but they would have no legal significance.
