I use thrice. It's one of my favourite words. The word 'twice' seems to be falling into disuse, being replaced by 'two times'.
I suppose it's just evoloution, no-one uses 'thrice' nowadays do they?

Reminds me of my grandfather - a green grocer in Covent Garden when it was still a market.

"Sorry" is worse (in my foreign opinion"Please" and "thank you" are in my opinion overused in the English language to the point that they have lost their meaning. You can't say "yes" without following up with a "please" or "no" without following up with a "thank you". You don't realise just how insincere their use is in the English language are until you become fluent in a foreign language.
I would actually like 'ladies' and 'gentlemen' to go out of use completely. They introduce an unnecessary air of gentility (another word which is dying out). What is wrong with the words 'women' and 'men'?
I don't know whether she would have considered that a compliment. I suspect not."Tiss-you" always sounds a bit Brian Sewell.
I showed this thread to my son.
His reaction was "Christ! Some of it's like Jeremy Clarkson and Giles Brandreth had a horrible love-child of opinion".
He may choose to think that, but I couldn't possibly comment![]()
Wassail. Nobody seems to use the word Wassail in everyday conversation anymore.
