so, at the minute I'm stuck working miles away from where i live, I usually commute to my usual place of work a few times a week so i get the mileage in, as well as a couple of rides out with the lads. I'm spending so much time in the car and at work its making getting out almost impossible. Anyone have a similar problem.?

I don't even get the commute. Straight onto van! Got 3 little kids. Scenic route to tescos with paniers on at 10pm is about as good as it gets!

I have time on my hands but sometimes lack motivation and the weather must be right which will prove more difficult now.

I used to have that problem when I lived in the UK working all over the country for Barclays Bank.

I solved it by taking my bike with me and riding in new surroundings for an hour before driving home.

In my experience the bike will never find an excuse for not being ridden.

I have had everything from a 10 minute commute to a 90 minute each way commute. I feel the pain, it's difficult to get the exercise in when you're traveling.

In the end, you need to look at your day and work a time in. For example, do you spend an hour watching TV on an evening? Which is more important, TV or cycling?

If you keep a diary of what you're doingover a few days, you might find quick wins where you can eek out time.

One thing that's worked for me is working from home a day a week. I either get up and working at my normal getting up time, then have a slightly extended lunch, or I pack my laptop in a rucksack and work from a star bucks that is about an hour cycling from home

I work (almost always) from home and sometimes wish I had the regular commute as an option! It is hard when you work full time and have a family, especially now we've lost a lot of daylight hours. I find I don't often become 'free' until 9pm, at which point its dark, kids in bed and sitting on the turbo whilst OH sits there bored seems quite antisocial!

Sometimes, if kids after school clubs and OHs work allows, I will try and get ahead of my hours by doing 8-6 mon and tues, freeing up weds morning for a sneaky midweek ride after the school run - it doesn't work out very often in reality but when it does I can be spotted cycling along with a smug grin

I do 6:30-4:30, so Mrs. GA doesn't get off until later, so I commute to her workplace at the end of the day, then car from there. And I get an extra day off per week out of it, some of which goes into cycling.
