The most simple answer is, it's important to keep him a police dog rather than a pet. If he lives indoors it's the beginning of him becoming a pet - there are a number of layers of complexity though. Don't worry, if he's not a happy dog then I'm doing something wrong!

Hello everyone. I'm really excited. I've got a job in the police - dream job too - I get to play games all day with this nice copper bloke and then when he gives me the nod I growl like I'm possessed, race over to some naughty geezer, bite the crap out of him ... and then take him down - HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

Salary is good - free food in the canteen every day - I get my own place into the bargain - and can put all the toys I want on expenses. Not bad for doing what comes naturally. I think I'm gonna love it!
