On balance, I think I would have twatted him, well done for keeping your cool.

Oh dear, sorry to hear you got caught up with a twat like that. I don't see the problem my self. He's probably one of the wanabe club & didn't like you keeping up with him.

He was your rabbit. You were the faster rider and overtook him. That's the best way to leave a situation like that. The words must have been annoying but snot-blasting onto you deliberately? I would have lost my temper with that..

Yeah I agree that's worse than spitting and IMO being spat on would have been my trigger to pull alongside the git and left jab him knocking him off his bike.

Almost inevitably I'd say. What a dick! (A tiny one, of course;))

Well done for not pushing him off. Console yourself with the thought that an attitude like that will give him an ulcer or heart attack sooner or later.

When I realised he was quite serious about doing me harm and no reasoning could be done, I sprinted off up the road with him screaming he was going to come and bleeping kill me or somesuch, and I didn't turn round until I hit home a few miles later. I'm very grateful that I was able to leave him behind and that traffic and traffic lights went in my favour - I wouldn't like to have been caught by him.

Shocking tale. Unlikey as he could't keep up! What a fanny.

terrible story and funnily enough there have been threads on here from people complaining about people tailgaiting once they have overtaken them.

obviously this is on another scale ...but if there's a general assumption you're not allowed to follow someone once they overtake you, then that base position gives idiots like this a foundation.

What a nob, well done for doing the braver and more sensible thing of walking away.

Perhaps he's got a tiny willy.

Well you know what they say about those that wear lycra for commuting...eco-friendly Porsche drivers.

there we go... corrected it for you.

As long as you don't block the shoulder look angle then 2 people can ride quicker or at the same speed with less effort than 1 even if the stronger rider stays in front. I have had some great runs trying keep on the wheel or break away from a quick tailing rider.

Tailgating in a car and drafting on bike are two entirely different things. The first is bullying the driver in front to go faster or get out of the way. Drafting, however, should be taken as a compliment!

Do have to be careful, though. I once braked for a ped on a zebra crossing and the guy drafting behind (no one I knew) went straight into the back of me! But we both laughed about it.

This guy was probably new to the commute and the mean streets of Putney. Still thinks he's behind the wheel of a car and acts accordingly. Plus only a newbie would be wearing lycra shorts in November. ;)
