Ha! I too supported Argentina in 1998, as I do every four years, but my support is a finer thing than Tarte Tatin's. My support consists of giving fifty quid to that nice Mr. Coral and asking him to spend it wisely. I believe he has a small framed photograph of me on his mantel.

When Argentina flopped in 2002 I wrote to Mr. Battistuta, posing as a Buenos Aires costermonger, accusing him of deserting his country for European gold and, worse still, women, while we, the inheritors of Peron's legacy, ate chicken rather than beef. Sadly he didn't see fit to reply. But, then again, my spanish is rubbish.
