Walk my bike around an m56 road junction - i'm sure some hardcore towny cyclist would frown at this, but I prefer a quite life.

Pet hate is drivers not indicating to come off the roundabout, especially irritating when they are on the mobile as well.

Otherwise, it was the humble hawthorn bush, but since my M+'s they are nowt but a memory.

Oh not a hazard usually, but seeing the newly dumped fly tipped rubbish piles each morning on my country lane commute.

Not the worst, but peds that see you approaching, yet are compelled to step out in front of you. Tell me why?

Thanks for all your comments - and votes. Seems that school-run mums are marginally worse than white van men, with BMW drivers trailing third. But 12 per cent of you nominated other cyclists as the worst hazard, which says a lot.

The poll stays live here - you can still vote: http://twtpoll.com/72cif5

uhm forgive me if i am wrong but if had this on while cycling wouldnt they be more lik ly to hit you when they start fiddling with the phone due to lost signal and are looking at the road even less?

for me the worst hazard are the van drivers who forget they are wider than a car and overtake without even crossing the central line , lorries although some get close in general they allow the room .
then you have the people who think cyclist ......slow moving and get a shock when you keep up with the traffic in those speed camera zones:evil:

Has anyone mentioned the Bus that 'overtakes'* you then pulls in immediately at the bus stop and squashes you into the kerb?

* ie. the millisecond the drivers door has past you.

Cars that draw level with you as you're approaching a load of parked cars and allows no room for you to pull round them.

Motor bikes that overtake you as you're about to filter thru traffic then SLAM their brakes on to creep thru the gap as they're so much wider than you.....grrrr.

Cars that enter roundabouts you're on and don't give a blind f**k that you have right of way and almost wipe you out.

+1 for all of these. Would add the general close overtakes and for me the ever present menace of "evil" London black cab drivers who are just on some mission. Are they from the "Village of the Damned" as they all seem to think the same.

Taxi driver who pulled into the cycle lane right in front of me on Cumbernauld road so he could take a call... Ohh but his hazards where on so it excused his actions.

Road was busy so i could not evade by going round so i had to hop onto the pavement to stop me smacking into the back of him.

Really? I ride mostly on bike paths (lucky me, they go more or less where I want), so motons are not too much of an issue for me. And it's not iPeds or even training-for-le-tour-in-your-dreams other cyclists that are the biggest hazard for me.

It's the fricken wildlife!

I've been commuting for just over a month, in an Australian city, and the number of brush turkeys (morning ride) and possums (evening ride) that have darted out in front of me is astounding. And the buggers are protected too!

Mind you, my first crash, last night, was from a raised manhole cover on a dark stretch of road. Gravel rash, anyone?
