In a recent which survey Halfords /Cycle Republic came near the bottom of the best/worst shops on the high street, beaten to the worst spot by WH Smith.

Would have been your experiences shopping there?

Evans, can depend on which shop. Some don't seem to care.

ToysRUs are now no longer here.

I really don't like WH Smith.

Over the top prices at railway stations etc. Hard to buy a cheap biro - and they are a stationer's ffs.

Long queues with one staffed till only. The queue snakes around lots of things they are trying to get me to buy that I don't need or want. Then when I get to the till they are always giving me vouchers off a future spend and hassling me to buy a bar of chocolate for a £1. Same on the self-service tills. Shame their only competition is the independents.

I stopped going into WH Smith in Blyth a few years ago. The customer service is terrible - four staff mucking about trying to get a lottery machine to work while no-one is serving the queue of customers; a customer told that "the Metrocentre shop might have it" but no offer to try to contact the shop to find out.

It won't be a surprise if they go out of business.

The problem with W H Smiths is that everything they do whether it be books, cards, stationery there is some else doing it better on the High Street.

I can’t see them lasting in the long term.

the Whsmiths in Perterbrough city centre has the Post Office inside, so decent footfall trade but most things seem a bit expensive. customers service depends on as much as the customer as well as the staff, I've never had an issue and the staff were fairly pleasant.

I think that's why the one here in Carlisle is still trading, the main post office closed down and relocated there a few years ago.

Lovely looking big old post office is now a posh hotel I think.

I think its the Staff , poor training and low pay, disinterested..
Most shops suffer this from time to time.

This just about covers it for me too - and the examples of price gouging at their stores within hospitals hasn't done them any favours either.

This.

Poorly organised and confused. They try to sell everything resulting in them selling nothing very well.

When I was a child, 50+ years ago, it was a treat to be allowed to catch the No.18 bus to the nearest town to spend my Christmas or Birthday book tokens.

I stopped using W H Smith when they started forcing chocolate down the nation’s throat. Our local WHS has taken on the post office. It’s now totally rammed with PO customers in a random queue. I go to a village PO instead now.

My local Halfords is generally good for my admittedly limited motoring needs. Customer service is fine. The only time I take my bike in is to park it inside if I’ve forgotten my lock!!!!!
