I think for me it is a toss-up between Spooks and Outcasts on the beeb - both by the same TV production company - god, it's like Cold Feet in space / in MI5, only without the laughs and interest. You feel that any one of the characters - at any time - could be transplanted into the local school governers meeting or a branch of M & S and not be out of place in any way.

I think they're (Stephen Fry coined this phrase) arse gravy of the highest calibre.
I looked them up. Kudos has had the occasional success, but enough clunkers to make you wonder how they're still in work. Outcasts, Hustle, Spooks, The Fixer (now that was arse gravy) far outweigh Life on Mars and Lip Service.

Howard's Way had that '80s BUSINESS MEN style though.

I'm prepared to forgive it on the basis that it inspired the Fry & Laurie BUSINESS MEN sketches.

But it also gave us Jan Harvey who still looks now as though she has been trapped in an 80's time warp

I like Hustle. Completely ridiculous and pushes credibility, but nicely worked story lines, and cameos by famous actors hamming over-the-top characters in a humorous way. And playing "spot the Birmingham locations" when they are pretending that it is all in London.

Lost patience with Spooks.

Outcasts, The Deep and Survivors (certainly second series) on the other hand really shouldn't have got off the manuscripts.

Start watching

Decide if it is rubbish

If so, stop watching.

Forget about it quickly.

I cannot stand Eastenders which seems to be on all the time and whenever I get a five second blast of it as I change channels there just seems to be two horrid people arguing all the time.

As a kid there was only one TV and only one warm room so if the family had something on you were stuck watching it. Upstairs Downstairs pops in my mind, probably as it seemed to go on with nothing happening for hours.

I remember some truly awful Australian soaps they used to have on in the afternoons on ITV in the 80's. Top of my list has to be Young Doctors. It was quite spectacularly dreadful. It seemed dated even then. Take a look at the opening credits.
Young Doctors
There were some others that were also crap, Sons and Daughters and A Country Practice for example, but Young Doctors was the worst by a long way!

I like Hustle too. I didn't know about the Birmingham bit though - but then I don't know Birmingham very well.

Any soap, talent show, dance show or Big Brother.

Oh, and right now? Limmy's Show.

Now, I have a wide-ranging sense of humour from the darkest, blackest & most out-there to the fluffy, classic British sitcom - but I fail to see what's funny or where the laughs are supposed to go in this. Other comedians sing its praises on Twitter, but I'm beginning to suspect that as they're BBC stars they're contractually obliged to plug other BBC comedies which are low in the ratings to try and get their numbers up!

Anyone remember a God-awful mini-series called The Thorn Birds? An ageing Dr Kildare trying hard to recreate his younger self... says it all. Please don't google it if you don't want to spoil your lunch!

God I remember them! They were on just about the time I got home from school/sixth form.

Now that I think about it, I remember Dad, who'd have had a few by the time it was on, having a bit of a thing about Patricia from Sons and Daughters (I'd forgotten the name, had to look it up.)

Just watched the Young Doctors credits. Do you think we'll look that dated in 20-30 years? Of course, but I bet no era ever imagines it'll look dated one day...

Shudder. And Doctor Finlay's Casebook was pretty awful as well.
Actually, I rather liked Dr Finlay. And Dr Cameron. And Janet was a real sweetie!

Not 'Pat the Rat' !!
I used to watch Young Doctors getting back from school too, or while sneaking the odd afternoon off! There was a lovely nurse in Young Doctors called Tania who made a bit of an impression on a young lad!

Doctor Who presents an interesting dilemma. You can both love it:

and loathe it:

But actually I think childish naivety plays a part here. I've looked through lots of the old episodes (those that still survive) and all thoughts of dodging behind the sofa now, are long since past...

So - I'll nominate the poor old Doctor for the list...

There was one called the Sullivans which was pretty poor.
