I always ask if I pass a cyclist, but there are some times and areas I wouldn't stop. Unfortunately sometimes you have to think about you own safety!

I usually stop, even when it's fairly obvious I can be of no help whatsoever.

Stopped for some guy with a broken down scooter once, doubt I coulda fixed that with a multitool. He got it limping along at 10 mph somehow without any help from me.

Few weeks back I stopped for some guy wheeling a cheapo electric bike with a flat (I get AtoB for the folder content see, but still look at the e-bike articles), he was cursing about repeated punctures and how he couldn't wait to get his driving license back and how his wheels were buckled and how he "tightened up the spokes" but they still weren't right. I was going to give him some tips but I couldn't get a word in edgeways. He only had a couple miles to push anyway.

Always, when on my bike - "are you ok?" - it's just karma!

I would always stop too. However, as to it being karma!! Last Easter I stopped for a cyclist who was wallking his bike - he had a flat and no spare tube, repair kit or phone. I spent a few mins fixing his flat and a week later found myself passed by another cyclist when I was struggling with my bike in the middle of nowhere. To make matters worse, I was on nodding terms with the jerk and he actually looked away with a fixed gaze while he rode by - he then had the temerity to wave the next time our bikes crossed paths. Karma, I don't think so. Some cyclists are tossers, I do think so - but I would still stop, even for the tossers of this world.

Blue he prob. thought that as you aint said nowt then your ok, as you nodded to him

Obviously not on your level yet !

The reason I started to ask or see if anyone wants help is; once I was on the sid eof the road just adjusting the bars or something and some bloke asked if 'I was ok' and i said 'yeh no worrries...' but it was nice as i could have been in a state.

So I feel the more people ask then it'll spread.

I ve had someone offer to drive me 10mls and another (cyclist) basically tell me the address so I can call by to get help!

Now thats help.

At least we can rely on everyone but Dom and Trio !

When cyclng past a person who is in obvious trouble I always ask if they are ok and do they need anything? Some do most don't.

I usually offer help if I can.

I once, while driving, came across a woman who's car had stalled, and the battery was flat, in the middle of a junction. I pushed her to the other side and then offered to push start it. Wasn't starting. So I tried tow starting it with my car. Half a mile down the road and still nothing. Got under the bonnet to have a look and went through all the things that were/weren't happening as I was towing.

Finally it twigged, all that pushing and towing and she hadn't turned the ignition on!

So, what did you say to her

i would always ask, unless they already had assistance/were boy racers etc.

and i do have some knowledge of engines etc, but through experience, i wont help one member of my family, as after being out in his car, when it broke down several times due to dead battery, when he finally went to buy a new one, he had a massive arguement with me because i pointed out that it may be the alternator, and he should get them to test it rather than take a know it all stance and just get a new battery..

a breakdown later, and the aa man checked, and concluded it was indeed the alternator- never did get an apology.- i have known whats wrong with his car in other instances since, but let him find out the long hard way- serves him right....
