Would you stop?

Spotted a story in the local rag about a guy who came off his motorbike during rush hour and was trapped beneath it for ten minutes until someone stopped: "I was so scared I was going to be left there because I could not shout or move and it was getting dark..."

So my question is this: if you spotted someone in trouble, would you stop to help or continue on your way?

I'd stop, even if I didnt know what to do. At least I could comfort him and or call the police and ambulance and maybe divert traffic away. My thinking is that one day it might be or could be me.

There has been a few times when I have been cycling commuting and have come across broken down vehicles (and once a motorbike that fell over on to it's rider) and I was the only one to stop to help. All the motorists just wanted to get by and on their way.

Yes. I have had a couple of seizures in the street and on my bike and have been fortunate that people each time have stopped and helped me out so I would not hesitate.

I think most have the mentality of someone else will stop but they all think that so no one stops.

Thought as much. Really don't understand the reasoning behind not stopping, other than someone on the way to a genuine emergency (e.g house on fire rather than tea's ready )

Depending on the situation maybe not actually stop but slow down & ask if I could be of any assistance.

I had some wonderful people stop and help me when I've crashed and it really does make a huge difference. Yes, I'd stop.

I would stop, but the truth is that many people wouldn't. I have posted about this disgusting example before!

There was one local to me where a man collapsed and people just thought he was homeless. He died and was there for 8+ hours

I once had to drag a motorbike off a rider that had been knocked off by a car driver who hadn't checked her mirrors and tried to turn right as the bike was overtaking. The weird coincidence was that I was at a bus stop waiting to go in to a test for first-aid certification. The training was fresh in my mind so the procedures regarding checking the scene and first checks on the casualty were routine. Fortunately, the rider was fine. I called an ambulance in case his neck had twisted when he hit the ground.

Mr dragon and I stopped when a lad of about 14 came off his bike. His head hit the ground and was bleeding profusely. He started having a fit and it took mr dragon and another man to hold him down to prevent him from hurting himself even more until, the ambulance arrived. I couldn't help because he was so strong and my children were babies so I stayed well back out of the way.

When I recently got knocked off by a car several following cars just drove past, when one did stop to ask if I was OK I got more from knowing that he had stopped the traffic so I could get up without getting run over than from the help he offered. Don`t know who he was but well done him.

I have stopped to lift a motorbike off someone, someone who came past at a stupid speed and I could see he was losing it and did. I and another bloke lifted it off him after he hit the wall. The other bloke began to reprimand him for his riding but I could see the bloke was a mess and shaking pretty badly so I gently intervened. I'm pretty sure he learned his lesson from hitting a sandstone wall, luckily, sliding into it bike first and not head first.
