..well I hit my first hic up...I use a tascam sound card (usb) and windows 7 wont allow me to install it on this machine...hmm..and there arnt any new drivers being issued for it either so it's toast as far as i'm concerned...gonna cost me a new sound card...bah.

The really neat thing about this laptop is that it is changing my entire recording set up...no need for the old hard recorder...no need for the old sound card, the desktop, the studio moniters, power amps etc...looks like ebay will be my next stop...oh..and i no longer need a desk...or the cd burner...or the auralex studio foam that cost me £1000....if only i'd had this when i was 17...

If there are Vista drivers available, try them.

I unreservedly recommend Dell computers and lap tops to all who ask. They perform faultlessly unless you live in Scotland
I've got a Dell XPS 8300 and an old Dell Inspiron laptop that I bought from their outlet site about 5 years ago. Apart from the laptop being pretty slow these days, I'd heartily recommend Dell too. So they must just not like Mad Doug Biker.....

Mmmm, Shiny!!!

I got a Dell 17R three weeks ago. Like it a lot.
Most of my previous experience is with Toshiba's - so know the faults and lifespan. Had a to repair a few. Can't stand Sony Vaio. So I'm in new territory, but was well recommended.
It's like anything IT, just keep backups and be nice to it.
Dropped a Dell 320 Desktop machine onto a concrete floor from 6 feet last month - it's still purring like a kitten. The bounce quite well!
