The slip road rising up from the left to the back of the pic indicates a bridge under the motorway they have just passed over. The strip is the expansion joint. These can be a bit lumpy
Bollocks, you can't tell that from that picture, that's the hard shoulder.

Jesus Christ... There's been far too many fatal RTA's in my area involving young people, one killed mid-December. A friend of mine lost his girlfriend in one last year, he's never fully psychologically recovered. I can't even imagine...

Looks like a slip road to me, with lorry joining. Check the blue sign, looks like a traffic merging warning. The ground to left of photo rises up, too. All that might suggest a junction with flyover.

Optical illusion if it's a junction it would not be a solid white line!

Zoom in to the lorry and the rising slip road it is merging from. They don't merge like that unless there is an underpass to link both sides together..

Through the use of cutting tools, yes, extraction through the roof is the easiest if there is any possibility of spinal damage etc.
The problem in this case is that the car wasn't split through the use of cutting implements but instead shear speed hitting the sign.

Been there, and it is not comfortable

Saw an accident on the A303 near Andover, and went to give First Aid. One of the victims was trapped in the car, and unconscious, so got in to check. They were breathing, but had a chest injury. So I stayed there supporting the patient and to monitor.

When the Police and Fire Brigade arrived, the decision was taken for me to stay put supporting the neck whilst they cut the roof off to allow Ambulance staff access.

It is a noisy and unnerving experience, and whilst you know that the roof will be well supported you still try and duck as the last pillar is cut.

0-10 for observation Alan...
Oh you're talking about the road AFTER the accident that has no bearing on it, sorry I thought what you were twittering on about was relevant.

But we are now off topic, so in true DD style, I'm out.
