Basically its a gadget to enable you to tension the chain with the rear wheel removed. Not an altogether bad idea but a bit pricey at £22

I like the idea of being able to access the inside (wheel facing side) of the derailleur while under tension to clean it more easily.

Which got me thinking that I bet CC-ers already improvise something to the same effect. Do you do this and how?

£22 to stop a lot of cussing , bad language, and high blood pressure....

I'd get one for the front wheel as wheel

Yep I've had a similar one for years, really useful for when you are washing a disc braked bike.

You can remove the wheel so the disc doesn't become accidentally contaminated with whatever cleaning agents you're using, then the widget means you still have chain tension and can clean the drive train whilst rotating the pedals.

I forget what I paid for mine, it wasn't that much though.

Edit: just checked mine, it's a Pedro's Chain Keeper and I paid €11 for it.

I found a few videos if you search dummy hub
Theres also a hack for homemade one on GCN channel in which they slighly have the park one next to it
I'm a plumber and I very much doubt that reel off plumbers thread tape will last long as it's very flimsy
Try using a real off the garden trimmer as I have such a spare in garage and very robust
