One of the best days of my life today. A truly memorable one. We set off early and rode up from Cracoe to Buckden, traffic-free roads (!) rode up to the top of the first big climb of the day and witnessed a unique British capacity to entertain itself. A kid (there were lots over the several hours we were there) rode up the steepening climb, s/he was treated like they were the solo breakaway and roared to the top! It was truly gratifying to see. It got a bit ropey with the spontaneous Mexican wave and I (accurately) predicted it wouldn't be long before 'Oggy-oggy-oggy' broke out but it was a really good, life-affirming thing to see. OK, it was Yorkshire but nothing's perfect and today pretty nearly was. And tomorrow we've got more of it when I can ride from my house to a section we've identified (probably with about 50,000 others) as having great spectator potential.
I can't wait for this next year!
