Ordered some gear on line. Great service absolutely no complaints but was sent this line in the confimration email:

The order with Order ID:XYXYX has been dispatched today by Royal Mail and can be tracked at www.royalmail.com using your tracking number XYXYXYXYXYX

Having lived a sheltered life, I have never tracked a delivery before so thought I would give it a go. Followed the link, typed in the tracking number and.........

The response message read along the lines of "this type of sign for delivery is not tracked until after it has been delivered"

Trying to work out what use that is to me:crazy:

It simply confirms that they don't know where it is while they've got it.

If I recall correctly it means that the parcel isn't 'live' until it has left the company you have bought something from (i.e. from their perspective 'delivered').

They can give you tracking number because when you ship a lot of stuff you get given numbers in batches.

+1 re comments above , if goods have not left the shippers yet then the tracking number will not be live till the couriers scan it in to there system

Not always I got something last week that couldn't be tracked until after it had been delivered.

but the mail says it has been dispatched and can be tracked. To me that means you should be able to see if it is on a van, in a depot or something useful. I know when it arrives at my address so the tracking service that only lets you know when it has arrived at your address seems a bit nuts.

ah but dispatched by them and collected by the delivery driver involves a pile of boxes usually in reception or a postal room and until the delivery driver actually collects them, they are not collected, but have been dispatched as far as the company is concerned...

I think what it really means is that there is absolutely no tracking done until it arrives at the destination and is signed for.

It's ID cards by the back door, that's what it is. Once they've delivered it, they'll track it (and therefore, you) for the rest of your days....

The company you purchased the item from are at fault here. They have sent you an item that will have to be signed for on delivery/collection, so that you cannot deny having recieved it, but have told you that they have used a trackable service, which quite clearly they have not. Perhaps a request for a P+P refund, as they have not done what they said they did, might encourage them to rephrase thier Emails
