.... both you and your ten year old son know the words to re-released songs such as "Don't Stop Believin' " by Journey.

In 1977 I was at Coventry Technical College, studying French and Spanish.
I lived in Styvechale, near the Burnt Post. I had lots of friends living in Earlsdon. In 1978 I started work at J J Cash, near the Foleshill Road.

They have closed the old technical college now, I think they are planning to build offices and flats on the site, There's a new college in Swanswell street.
Was JJCash on Cashes lane then? They are in Torrington Ave now. If they were you weren't far from where I was working. The work shop where I was working was behind where Hawk Cycles is now, I think it was a hardware store then, I can't remember the name now but I think it began with a v.

JJ Cash was in Cash's Lane when I was there, from 1978 to 1982. After leaving there, I worked in the County Court in Warwick Row for two years.

The school I attended - Barr's Hill, has been partly demolished. The Technical College sounds like it will be demolished. JJ Cash has moved and so has the County Court - was it something I said?

When you start listening to Radio 4.
When Dr Who and James Bond are both younger than you.
When you have to start trimming your ears, eyebrows and nostrils.
When you lose interest in modern music.
When you see some youngsters playing sport and you think, that looks exhausting.

When you start watching an 'expert' on tv and you think to yourself that they aren't old enough to be an expert.
When you realise that tv ran out of good ideas 40 years ago.
When you understand that the old valve radio you keep and occasionally listen to (lovely warm tonal quality) will actually still be going when the modern hi-fi in the other corner of the room is at the corporation tip.

I find I go upstairs for something, can't remember why and have to come down again. Or is that just me?

That's nothing. I live in a one room flat, and sometimes I go into the kitchenette corner and forget why...

I think they call it progress, though I sometimes wonder. The radio and tv firm are long gone, I worked at the GEC at stoke, that's gone, I worked in a small engineering company in Kenilworth and that's gone as well.
