I had waited two years to cycle from the Hoek of Holland to Amsterdam with a good friend. Cycling through the dunes to the sound of cuckoo's and skylarks made it worth the wait.

Great thread idea. For me it was a ride from Penrith up Hartside to Alston, then the fantastic ride through upper Teesdale. The memory of looking across, not up, to Great Dun Fell sticks with me. 127 km of pure pleasure, no deadlines, no stress just a great bike ride.

This is a great thread. I think my favourite was actually the day I cycled my new Marin into town to see a talk by Felicity Cloake about her bicycle tour of the UK sampling different breakfasts. The hotel where she was talking had a room for bikes so I could wheel the bike in with me, there was a full English brunch, and then I collected my Alpkit order from the Post Office, just about squeezed everything into my pannier and rode back in the sun. The thing is, I’ve eaten at that restaurant so many times but never knew they were bike friendly until I turned up with my bike. And it was lovely to ride a bike to a breakfast event talking about bikes and breakfasts.

I went cycling in Gran Canaria for the second time in July. I’d omitted the Serenity climb on my previous visit for some reason so had to make sure I got it in on this trip. Starting in Meloneras it was along the coast then up the valley to Soria, over the top and descending Serenity to Mogán where I took on plenty of fresh water. Then back up with 37°C heat in the sunshine: not a particularly fast climb but job done ✔️

The ride was then slightly spoilt as I made the mistake of riding to Ayacata rather than back via Soria: it’s mostly uphill and seemed to go on forever. Fortunately after Ayacata it’s pretty much descending all the way back down to sea level.

I don't know which ride to pick from it but my trip to Calpe in May to meet my old club mates was probably my highlight; there's pictures galore in the strava feeds.

My longest ride of the year the day after my Brother's wedding was also fun, I guess I couldn't have drunk enough

Undoubtably hiring bikes and then cycling the 5 (?) miles to: and then over the Golden Gate Bridge and then back again - whilst travelling around California for 3 weeks.

Perfect weather, wide cycle paths, great scenery and no time schedules. Cycling life doesn’t get any better…..

Mine would have been a natural MTB ride with @fossyant @dan_bo and @I like Skol up in the hills of North Wales in October. It was going quite well until I got a bit out of shape at 20mph on a muddy down hill, hit a rut and got flung into a bank. Four bust ribs, a punctured lung and smashed left knuckle. Bike was ok though. Got back on and rode down to the car, then went out for a Thai and a few beers that night in Prestatyn. Bit shocked by the extent of my injuries when I went to Macclesfield A&E on the Monday after. :B)

Could I suggest if that's your best ride you start a "worst ride of 2022" thread and I'll brace myself!

It were a good day out, a very good day. Fabulous views. Poor man was more worried about what his wife, and even more, what his mum would say. He lived - we gingerly dropped him off at his door, and carried his bags and bike to the house
