I think you'd get away with it here as you're renovating an existing structure. People build huge extensions on to small cottages as so long as the original structure is there, it will probably be allowed. You just need to keep part of the original house.

You can even get a €70,000 grant for renovating an old dwelling house now, although I don't know if this would be too far gone to apply or not.
