They look like Martello Towers, built to protect against French invasion during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Were never used. An Admiral, whose name I forget, informed the government of the day that he could not guarantee that the French would not invade; he only guaranteed they would not come by sea.

I would generally make a flippant comment about some minor repointing work needed to bring it back to it's original glory. The general stonework condition looks fine in this case though
