It's all a decent surface now. I've ridden my Brommie there, too. Plenty of nice walks in the area, including Cheedale stepping stones, as well as other places.

The gloomy and graffitied corrugated iron tunnel under the top of Durham road bank at Canny Hill / Bishop Auckland on the old line that ran from Bishop to Spennymoor and beyond. It must have been quite a pull up there for trains from Bishop past Auckland Park back in the day.

This one sort of overlooks the speed ramps.
Also pedestrians. Worst of all touroid foreign pedestrians.
The top prize goes to American senior touroid. They only come in large and slow, it seems.
They make a vast amount of noise in the nice echoing chamber. Don't understand the signs, even those in English.
They seem unfamiliar with being pedestrians and never to encountered bicycles in numbers.
Recommendations for suitable tyres on the glassy surface will be anticipated.
