Can't be too careful, you know! 😂
I think it's because of anglers trout fishing where they do that flickety-whip thingie with the rod. 🎣

Aha - I think it actually is.
I grew up in a weatherboard house, others called it ship lap or clinker board.
Think the long ships were often clinker built.

I was under the impression Shiplap are generally the better quality interlocked boarding sheds. As opposed to the generally cheaper overlapping type; which the shed-boat looks like it is……

Calling any shed experts ? 🤣

You have set me off down a rabbit hole.
Historically the term come from the overlapped style. In the last generation or so it has started to be used more widely, especially by sellers of domestic sheds, and now encompasses a style that is a hybrid of V-groove and shadow gap. The actual term shiplap predates what is now seen as shiplap by many people.
Etymologically speaking, it is a good example of the evolution of language as influences from elsewhere in the world entered the local parlance, often displacing perfectly serviceable words and terms.

Historically the term come from the overlapped style.

Called bardage over here (which may also be the origin of the English word 'board').

Here's a not very good example (I have better photos but despite looking for them for some time, I can't find them).

The overlapping is perhaps most obvious with the last board - deliberately angled to help with rain run-off.

Anyway, the foxgloves look good ..
