Is there an old hall nearby ? Very are to see a grafted tree in a field.
There is, but I think this one has survived either an attempted ring bark or being used for fencing, possibly in WWII
Blackthorn and hawthorn are similar, one way to tell apart is blackthorn flowers before any leaves come out whereas hawthorn has leaves first then flowers.
Blackthorn thorns are lethal, I once got pricked by one at the base of my thumbnail - my whole thumb swelled up and I couldn't bend it for a couple of weeks.
