As recounted before, my favourite 'road closed' sign ever was one in France: "Route barrée - même aux cyclistes". They know what cheeky sods we normally are.

I think I prefer the ones used by the Hinckley Connection project, which had a cyclist, walker and equestrian exception stuck to them. A pity more roadworks do not use them, because it is most commonly the case that roadworks can be walked past, even if work is in progress.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love all the 'no entry' signs in my local town in France, all of which have the "sauf cyclistes" underneath. But the one in question was actually being really helpful, as it saved a pointless climb to discover that the road didn't actually exist as such at the time, being subject to complete re-engineering. Such are the perils of cycling in properly mountainous areas.

As you'll see, options for walking around to the left or right would have been, erm, challenging. Fortunately there was a back-road option that saved a 50-mile detour to get back home.

But yes, I agree that "cycling and pedestrian access possible" would save the lottery of wondering if you can get through (which you can normally).

I rolled the dice and lost a couple of weeks ago. Only a mile & a steep downhill extra to get around
