I've been across that in a kayak, many years ago.

I found it quite scary, as I'm not good with heights, and it was like an infinity pool on the side without the path.

Yeah, they don't want to clear up the mess at the bottom if somebody gets it wrong

I crossed it with a bike sometime in the 80s. I don't remember much about the aqueduct but what I remember as being scary was that once you were across you entered a pitch dark tunnel with a narrow towpath, a low curved roof and a risk of falling in the canal.
