Nah, he wasn't a lizard, the Queen is. Has anyone seen her lately?
Yes, wearing green I seem to remember....

What’s the point
2 beautiful swans on the canal between bow roundabout and greenway . Only seen because I didn't do the col de bow and tried the supershiite way instead . It was closed so massive danger at the exit towards Stratford and I hopped onto pavement and went onto canal path .

I love life and it's little quirks

My daughter found this beetle on the garden path yesterday. My wife said that there seems to be a colony of them in the garden. View attachment 134100

Its a Stag beetle.

More specifically it is the lesser stag beetle (Dorcus parallelipipedus) I believe. http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/lesser-stag-beetle
There is also an excellent photo of it here http://www.warrenphotographic.co.uk/26634-lesser-stag-beetle

But sadly not the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). https://ptes.org/get-involved/surveys/garden/great-stag-hunt/
How to tell the 2 apart (except by size) is can be found on this pdf. http://ptes.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Beetle-ID-guide.pdf

Itching to get back on my bike's
Just had our yearly fleeting visit by a pair of Goldfinches.

Not sure if they are the same pair every year but we always seem to see one pair per year in the garden.

It took a while to persuade any to come to my garden but I bribed them with sunflower hearts and niger seed, and now have several pairs who visit on a daily basis all year round.

(Peak nesting time seems to over now, or at least that's what my weekly feed bill suggests.)

I keep finding dead animals in my garden, I'm hoping it is Jimmy (2 doors up) as he is due to move next week. But I'm slightly worried that there is another cat in the neighbourhood that is becoming an effective hunter. Yesterday's find was another bird and a small mouse together with the same coloured mess!

I really hope Jimmy is a cat...
